Great Place to Work and Practice + Nursing Annual Report

Mission Health is a certified Great Place to Work. The healthcare industry provides us with the unique opportunity to truly change and enhance the lives of the individuals and families in the communities we serve. As we work to continue serving western North Carolina with the best healthcare experience and safest care possible, we must remember to stay the course together. When we lead one another — put teamwork, communication and leadership into action — we demonstrate that we are stronger in unison.

A large part of our recognition to become a Great Place to Work and Practice is the goal of creating a work place where everyone can shine.

Awards & Recognitions

DAISY Awards

Mission Health awards nurses throughout the year with the DAISY Award, which recognizes extraordinary nurses who honor the compassion and care bed-side nurses provide patients every day. Nurses are nominated by peers, leaders, patients and families. Nominate a nurse.

Great 100 Nurses

The Great 100 Nurses of North Carolina is a once in a lifetime award for nurses nominated by their peers for demonstrating excellence in practice and commitment to their profession. Nominations open in January each year and the annual award ceremony is in October.

It is an honor to both nominate and be nominated for this award. Learn more about how to write a nomination through classes offered throughout the system.

In 2017, six of our nurses were recognized as Great 100 Nurses of North Carolina.

Compassion iN Action Award

CNA AwardCertified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) are important members of the nursing care team. They assist patients and their families and collaborate with nurses to provide high quality care.

The Compassion iN Action Award (CNA Award) was started at Mission Hospital in Asheville by the Shared Decision Making Team of the Staffing Pool to honor exceptional CNAs in that department.

This award expanded to a hospital-wide recognition in June 2013. CNAs are nominated throughout the year for their exceptional dedication and hard work. Honorees who model the Mission Health Core Values, seek to meet Our BIG(GER) Aim for each patient and their family, and model effective communication are selected for this recognition.

Deserving CNAs may be nominated by patients, family members, nurses, physicians or any team member.

Nursing Annual Report

The forward-thinking work and successes of Mission Health nurses are featured each year in an online report that recognizes many nurses across the seven hospitals for a job well done. Their commitment to the best outcomes and to providing compassionate care is evident in these annual reports. Mission Health’s Nursing Strategic Plan outlines the framework by which our nurses provide an exceptional experience for our patients, their families and our team members. These reports tell their stories. The previous year’s annual report is released each year during Nurses Week.

Nurses Week

Each year to commemorate the birthday of Florence Nightingale (May 12, 1820), we celebrate Nurses Week, May 6-12. During Nurses Week, we celebrate nurses across the United States and recognize our Mission Health nurses for their excellence and dedication to their practice and our patients. At Mission Health, we celebrate all week long at scheduled events, educational opportunities and recognition ceremonies.

Each year, we promote a #thankanurse campaign on Mission Health social media, in the lobbies of our seven hospitals, on Caring Connection and on missionhealth.org.

Stay tuned for planned activities for 2019.
